In Your Garden - Vita Sackville-West (ISBN 0-7112-2354-8)
‘In Your Garden’ is a great bedside book, particularly for those of us who have the habit of nodding off after a couple of pages. It is the first in a series of books compiling the weekly column of Vita Sackville-West in the Observer newspaper between 1946-1961. Accepting that the writing is of it’s time, 70 years ago, the style has a personal confining style, Vita will become a gardening friend, if you allow it.
Vita led an interesting and colourful life, a poet, novelist, she was part of the Bloomsbury group. Gardening for her was a life long passion, culminating with her and her husband, Harold Nicolson designing and creating the now world famous gardens at Sissinghurst Castle.
Her knowledge of plants and gardening is impressive, born from personal experience of both successes and failures. So the pages are packed with honest practical advice that is still useful and relevant today.
We hope you enjoy this choice, happy reading!
